A Blessed Day of Hard Work!
Devotion: A Love That Adopts
Romans 8:16-17
“The
Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
Now if we are children, then we are heirs - heirs of God and co-heirs
with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may
also share in his glory.”
We woke up to roosters crowing and
no water! At 9:00 we gathered on the 3rd floor of Calle 2 for an
excellent breakfast and to talk excitedly about our first day of work.
One
team traveled to Central Church for construction where classroom walls
have been removed to create a larger area for worship. God has blessed
the church and it has outgrown it’s space. A wonderful problem to have,
but a lot of work to get done before services on Sunday. A large
portion of the day was spent loading a flatbed truck with cinder blocks
(400 of them!) and then unloading them at the church for Beinvo to use
in constructing the new bathrooms. Load, unload, repeat! There was
also a lot of digging, sifting sand, carrying buckets of mortar and tons
and tons of sweat!
The other team went to a rural church for VBS
and to share God’s love with the children. Our Bible verse for the day
was “God loves a cheerful giver!” The children enjoyed games and
crafts after their lesson and before our siesta time. In the afternoon,
the team traveled to La Perez to meet new friends and Pastor Nico.
There was singing, doing skits, playing games and making crafts. Many
piggyback rides were given this afternoon!
In the evening we had
dinner on the third floor with Bienvo and his family before heading out
for ice cream. We will sleep well tonight and hope God keeps us this
productive all week.
Message from Jude and Jonathan, “Matt, Andrew, Annika, we are doing great! Love you and miss you!”

I'm happy to read that the roosters haven't lost anything in the 7 years since they woke up our group. (I hope the water issue gets fixed).
Enjoy your time (as I know you will) and know that the St. John family is praying for you.
Hello DR team!
Thanks for all the updates and the wonderful pictures. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers daily as you share the love of Christ. The work sounds hard, but we know you can do it! The smiles on the faces tell the story.
Keep up the good work.
